Dyslexia is not a disease; it is not a diagnosis in the International Classification of Diseases. It is a neurobiological peculiarity, a specificity of information perception, which makes it difficult for a child to learn to read and write.
In scientific terms, it is a persistent inability to master automated reading of whole words. At the same time, the intellect of a child with dyslexia is not impaired. Moreover, such children are often gifted in other areas, able to think outside the box, creatively. History knows many successful people with dyslexia: Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Hans Christian Andersen, Tom Cruise. Dyslexia is sometimes simplistically described as a disorder in the connections between the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
